Rico’s musical journey began before he could even walk—playing piano by ear at just 11 months old. His father, a piano teacher, quickly recognized his extraordinary talent, and by age three, Rico was studying classical violin. By six, he was performing concertos while simultaneously developing his skills as a pianist.

 

    As a teenager, Rico expanded his repertoire, performing as a singer and pianist, covering legendary artists like Elton John, Billy Joel, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, and Earth, Wind & Fire. The 70s music scene heavily influenced him, and he also began composing original music during this time.

 

    Rico pursued Music Composition in college before shifting to Financial Planning and eventually becoming a Certified Financial Planner®. In college, he performed in his university’s premier vocal jazz ensemble and played with some of the top rock bands in the area.  However, due to the financial frustrations of being a “starving student”, Rico took an interest in financial planning and changed majors–a decision he now regrets.

 

    Even while working in finance, music remained Rico’s passion.  He served as a singer and keyboard player in some of the largest churches in the area, but he was not able to pursue music professionally.  Finally realizing that life is short and music is his true calling, he left finance and real estate to work on his music in a bigger way.  He has now earned six professional certificates from the world-renowned Berklee College of Music, and has released his first single on streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.  (Artist Name: Rico Sean)  He is planning to release three more songs this summer–and his first EP this fall.

 

    Returning to teaching has been one of the most fulfilling parts of Rico’s return to music. With decades of experience as a performer, composer, and educator, he now shares his expertise through private lessons, helping students develop confidence, skill, and a deep love for music.
